About that eternal question, I really think you have to choose the feature of the weapon more than the stats (because they WILL change... So, Caldari: EW and missiles Gallente: Did I see some drone somewhere? Amarr: I Smell laser and armor Minmatar: Proj (Long range)
I don't see Amarr getting a projectile bonus anytime soon on their ship... And, proj will always behave like a projectile, need ammo, fire far, less precise etc...

But if I'd find myself downed after a single patch, well, I'd be ****ed off for sure.
That have always happen, and will happen again. It's like a lottery, or more like an earthquake, it struck close or far from you, you use some willpower to rebuild, but the things around you should look almost the same after the rebuild, so don't worry, laser should not use any ammo even after the badest patch...

In the end:
Looks like the only choice that would not let me down would be to go Caldari/missiles, keeping hybrids on a low training/time investment profile. The reasons of this choice would be: 1) EW could always be useful, whatever ships I could fly. 2) Missiles, see above (more, they have lots of ups and few downs). 3) Skills for shield tanking, see above (reverting them to armor tanking should not be an issue, since I'd always need the same stuff: big cap, fast cap recharge, etc., the only thing that should change would be relying on armor HP instead of shield HP, and even this not being the biggest issue imho).
? You seem to be going for the "Flavor of the patch" by stating theses missiles goodies...
Missiles will probably become dumb (Skunk missiles?) and miss target or have new way to defend against them... EW WILL lose their 100% effectiveness (if you read the board a little) so EW is good but not ultimate like right now...

Tbh I'd like to follow my heart and go Minmatar all the way, but I fear what I wrote above.
You have to choose for yourself and like your own choice, so will you dislike yourself more by not flying minmatar ship or by not having a good weapons?
You don't want to find yourself trying to put tachyon on a minmatar ship because you realised you did'nt like to carry ammo later on...
AND yes, the 'best' weapons system will change each big patch...
Also, you will only become the 'best' if you train your weapon system/ships to level 5 because of the extra edge that will make you win on a 1 on 1 situation (if the EW 100% effective did'nt do his trick... :) )
If you STILL don't know what weapons you like more than the other, just train all the skills that affect all weapons type... (there are quite a few) range, tracking, shield, armor, cpu, powergrid, speed, agility, max cap, recharge Cap, CAP used by turrets, CAPS used by modules... you cannot be wrong by training them all to good level... |
